How to style a green sweater dress for Valentine’s Day

Where’s the TV remote?

This time of year it seems to be one awards show after another. The music industry Grammys was on last weekend and the Academy Awards are coming soon. I love seeing what is being worn as much as who won what. These shows usually go on way too late for my bedtime so more often than not, I’ll just look at the wardrobe hits and misses online. In fact, we don’t watch much TV at all, and almost never watch it live when it’s happening. We record a few favorite shows and check them out later when we have a bit of downtime. For one thing we can zip through the ads and watch a one hour TV show in about 45 minutes! It seems my taste on favorites change with the seasons, just like my wardrobe! Some of the shows I used to really like have gotten old for me. There are a couple new ones that have taken their place but we don’t watch much at all. I know a lot of people who have TVs in pretty much every room. We are very unusual because we have one in our whole house! Maybe because I didn’t grow up here I don’t have the same appreciation for the shows that I can choose from. Not that TV was much better in China but at least I could think in Chinese while I was watching! Here, when I tune in, I usually have the closed captions on so that I can catch all the dialogue. You’d probably be surprised at how many times the words on the screen are different from what the actors say! One of those things you’d never know if you didn’t have the subtitles on. Maybe it’s the Chinese part of me but to tell the truth, I’d rather be working on a post or reading other blogs if I’m going to be sitting in front of a screen. Well at least until The Blacklist comes on!

We’re in the final few days before Valentine’s weekend. So I’m sprinting to the finish line with a few more looks that will be just right for a night on the town. Today is a rich green sweater dress. As I’ve mentioned I love the flexibility of a sweater dress for fitting your form while it keeps you from freezing. I don’t know why but it always seems that we get the coldest table at the restaurant! This emerald green dress is nicely broken up with colorful parallel bands of contrasting colors at the shoulders, hem and sleeves. The geometric edges of this pattern add interesting shape and texture to the solid field of green. There was enough color going on with the dress so I wanted to stay more neutral elsewhere. My black tights and leather heeled pumps made sure to compliment the focus piece without distraction. I love a nice statement necklace and got just that with my blingy oversized pendant hanging on a thick sturdy chain.

I always have to get that extra pop so grabbed my read leather clutch purse. The shiny metal corner accents nicely sparkle up the look while matching the gold in the dress pattern. Staying well-grounded in my earth tones is my super warm and stylish wool coat with faux fur collar. It’s a beautiful cocoa color and really flatters my shape even while out in the cold of winter. You’re probably thinking, cocoa is sort of like chocolate. Chocolate for Valentine’s Day? Coincidence? Maybe not! Even though I’m not a chocoholic I do have to sample the occasional piece; for research purposes only of course! Other than with the bag, this outfit goes away from the traditional red that you may think of for the holiday. But I never like to limit my possibilities on what I wear or what makes a great outfit. Now if you’ll excuse me I have some more research to do…Score! Caramel filled!
