Wake up and smell the coffee!
A couple days ago I started telling you about my first vacation trip after I moved to America. My husband and I didn’t have much money so went on a road trip to drive around Lake Michigan. My husband likes camping and hadn’t gone for a long time so I agreed that we could do that for at least a couple nights. One of the stops would be in the town of Houghton in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Everyone around this area calls this part of our state the U.P. This is the home of Michigan Technological University where my step-son was a student. The route we took had us travelling through Wisconsin and then back into the U.P. on our way to Houghton. Our first stop and my first time sleeping in a tent, was at a place called Porcupine Mountains. This park is about as far away from our home as you can get and still be in Michigan. The U.P. is mostly trees, lakes, animals and no cellphone signal! I couldn’t believe it. We were really far away from civilization. But in fact this area is quite beautiful and we went hiking in the forest and had a pretty comfortable night. Even though we were very far north, it was pretty warm and cozy in our sleeping bag. We didn’t have a lot of camping equipment or room in our small car so decided we would just eat cereal for our breakfast instead of cooking. That was a big mistake. There was nothing wrong with our cereal but all the other campers near our tent were cooking eggs and bacon and sausage and making coffee and pancakes. The smells were wonderful! And everywhere! We had a great morning though. The sun was shining brightly and it was quite warm when we walked down to the shore of Lake Superior. The sun warmed up the rocks and we did some morning yoga to wake up and were waving and talking to people as they paddled by in their kayaks. I remember thinking to myself that this camping stuff wasn’t bad at all! Well I found out a few days later that I was wrong about that! You’ll have to come back and read my daily posts to find out the next part of my story!
If you’ve been a regular reader you know I love color. It’s the name of my blog after all. It wasn’t always that way. When I was younger I wore black all the time. It was the cool thing to do. It was when I got a little older that I really started to appreciate how beautiful all the different colors could be. Don’t get me wrong, a little bit of black is unbeatable for cool classic and chic style. If you’re ever in doubt on what to wear, black is a pretty safe choice. But for me, this is one of those times where a little can go a long way. I just don’t like to be completely dressed in black without any splash. So for today’s outfit I satisfied my need by grabbing my favorite leopard print bag. It not only added that pop but also added a little fun. Making sure to pick some colorful accessories can really spice up the outfit. If you don’t have at least a pop or two of color you run the risk of making your whole day a little bit dark. It doesn’t always have to be another piece of clothing either. You can definitely bring your bling with some flashy jewelry and metal trim on your purse or shoes. Just as long as there some sparkle somewhere, you’ll have no problem being seen, even at night!
How about you? Basic black or do you need that color pop too? If so, what’s your favorite color for your go to look? There’s definitely something classic about black, white and grey but it just seems a bit too stuffy to me. Let’s see your comments! Come on, I dare you!
