Last Sunday I was invited to this fun event at Guys N Gals in Michigan which was called the 2nd Style Chops Competition. Totally there were 5 local fashion bloggers who participated.
We each got one full body mannequin and a half body (neck to waist) one to work on. The second one in the row was mine. My real job is a teacher so I know better than most people that nobody likes to be in the front row! We arrived at the store and my husband/photographer instantly felt better. There was a tray of homemade cookies set out for the customers and contestants. He said he had to keep his strength up to hold his camera steady. The owner greeted us and explained the rules of the competition. Then we were told about the 3 themes that we needed to work on later. They were boho chic, sporty and date night. We got a short time to walk around the store to brain storm what we would like to pick for each of our looks.
The owner then put 20 minutes on her timer and told us to create 2 cohesive looks based on the theme we were given. The first one was boho chic. And below are the results from Round 1.
After the 20 minutes were up, all the people in the store were able to vote. They scored our looks from 1 to 10 and then put their ballots into the red cups with our names on. At the end the store owner totaled up the numbers for each blogger.
The second look was date night. I always feel that if I just pick a dress for any look, it is kind of lazy or cheating. A dress is pretty complete all by itself and doesn’t need much extra to style. Instead, I like to use separate pieces to play around with and also for layering. It was quite interesting that all of us contestants picked black or black and white for this round. Since I love colors, I had to add that cute makeup bag for the finishing touch.
I didn’t win, but there were certainly no losers in this bunch. Every blogger did a great job and the extra bonus was that I had so much fun! 🙂 This competition really got my brain spinning. We had to react so fast! I am pretty good at dressing myself, but it’s a very different game when you’re under the gun and dressing the mannequins with a much younger crowd as the voters! It was great to see how others styled the looks and learn from each other.
Below are more looks for today’s outfit.
I am running a giveaway featuring $125 worth of Nicole Lee products. This is only for residents of the USA. You just need to follow Nicole Lee’s IG, My IG, leave a comment below and retweet or repost. Please tag me when you do so. 🙂
