Over 40 what to wear and give on mother’s day
My first Mother’s day celebration was 8 years ago. I was working in my yard pulling weeds. My dear husband came home from work and told me I need to wash up because we were going out. Back then we were pretty tight and didn’t usually go out to eat. It was my dream if wae could go out to eat breakfast once a month at the local Coney Island restaurant. So I had no clue where we were going or what we were doing. Then we arrived at the Cracker Barrel restaurant and I saw my step-daughter was waiting there. Finally my husband told me that day was my Mother’s Day dinner and my step-daughter Ashley asked him to surprise me. It was a total success because I never thought that I will celebrate Mother’s day since I don’t have any of my own kids and my husband’s kids are all grown ups.
I was crying on the way home and it was truly tears of joy. I was just a stranger from China for Ashley and my step-son Bobby about 9 years ago. They had never seen me (other than Ashley saw me a few times when I was Skyping with my husband) or hang out with me. And suddenly I entered their lives. As you can imagine, we have gone through a lot. We had our share of laughs and tears but I was trying to be there, to support them as much as I can with my poor English.
That day I got a pair of cute earrings and a nice dinner. After that, every year Ashley brings me something to celebrate this special day. What was your first Mother’s day memory?
Talking about the Mother’s day gift. I just discovered a very cool store in Birmingham, Michigan and they have some pretty unique upscale gifts for moms. This store is called Mills Pharmacy + Apothecary. I know, when most of us hear “pharmacy”, we always think about those big chain names. You know, Rite-greens or Wal-aid or whatever. I remember my father-in-law was often upset with those big box stores because wherever they go that usually means the end of the independent drugstores. Those old family owned pharmacies are so friendly. They know your name, know your life, and they know you. Mills Pharmacy + Apothecary is just that kind of store. They’ve been a part of the neighborhood in downtown Birmingham since they first opened their doors in 1946. My math skills aren’t what they used to be but I can still figure out that means they’ve been doing business for 70 years. That is a small miracle in these digital days. I guess they can survive and are still going strong because they’ve been able to change with the times. They haven’t forgotten the folks that keep coming through the door by continuing to pay close, personal attention to customers in-store, but they’ve also kept up with those that may not be able to drop in so easily by combining it with the convenience of online shopping.
I love this Panier des Sens Soothing Almond Gift Set from Mills Pharmacy + Apothecary. I know I can spend $4 on a hand cream, but once in a while I think we all deserve a little more pampering with this Gourmand Ritual with almond extracts from Provence. Doesn’t it always feel more fancy when something is made in France? 😉 The set includes Hand Cream, Shower Oil and Body Milk. I already can see myself soaking in my bathtub with Norah Jones playing in the background and a glass of wine in the foreground, and silky skin after. 😉
Here are a few ideas that will make for a very nice gift for any moms.
This star spray is a world famous product. Avène Thermal Spring Water soothes, softens and calms skin. Spray anywhere skin needs hydration. It is your must haves for working in front of your computer or any other dry environment.
Now let’t talk about what to wear for that day. As the mom, you are usually the one wearing the pants in your house. But of course you can wear anything that you want. But this day, we are going to drop everything to love ourselves a little bit more by moving up a notch or two on the fashion dial.
I have hand picked a few outfits ideas for moms like us who may be on the other side of their 40s but who still want to look fab and young.
You can find all these pieces and more here.
