Why I Love Living in Troy Michigan #ZipCodePride
As you all know from reading my About Me page, I grew up in the north east of China, but after moving to Michigan to be with my late husband, I fell in love with the place. I am now settled in Detroit’s northern suburbs in the beautiful city of Troy where I am living life to the fullest as a teacher by day and a petite fashion blogger by night. As part of the #ZipcodePride campaign from Addressy, who provide an address verification service, I want to talk to you about some of the most awesome things about my home and why I love living in the heart of northern Detroit. If you live in this fabulous corner of the world too, then you’ll probably recognize a few of the places I’m about to mention, but if you haven’t made it here yet, make sure you add these things to your to-do and to-see lists for when you do.
The fabulous fashion scene
As a child, I had short hair and spent most of my time in my older brother’s hand-me-downs. Fashion was most definitely not at the forefront of my mind, but since moving by Detroit, the fashionista in me has come to life. Troy is one of the most cosmopolitan shopping destinations in the state of MI so it comes as no surprise that me and my fellow fashion bloggers love it here.
The Somerset Collection Mall here in Troy is actually one of the most profitable malls in the United States, with some of my favorite department stores, such as Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue. It is only about a 10 minute drive from where I live. 😉
The buzzing music culture
Detroit was once home to some of the most incredible bands and singers in the world and this musical culture is still very much alive today. The White Stripes, Iggy Pop, Aretha Franklin and Eminem are just some of the big names who have shared the same sidewalks as me, which is pretty cool, right?
The famous Motown Records was launched here in the late 1950’s and went on to produce some of the most celebrated soul and pop albums of all time. Metro Detroit is also the birthplace of the wonderful Detroit Symphony Orchestra so, as you can tell, there’s a real diversity about Michigan’s music scene and all the people in it, and I love it.
There’s always something to do
One of the greatest things about living in Troy is that it’s virtually impossible to be bored. There is always a park to stroll round, a brand new shop to treat yourself, or a coffee shop to catch up on emails. You name it, Troy has it. One day you can be watching a basketball game at the park or shooting some blog photos in the beautiful woodland, while the next day you could be hopping in a cab from one bar to the next painting the town red.
