Why Buying Designer Accessories is Worth the Investment

Why Buying Designer Accessories is Worth the Investment

After I turned 40 years old, I decided to rebuild my wardrobe by buying less pieces, but instead I began buying great quality and classical pieces which will last me a long time. Now after 3 years, I want to say that I have done pretty good with my plan. Of course, I have periodically spent money unwisely or bought cheap pieces just because they are trendy. It truly has been an ongoing self-reflecting process and here is the golden rule I have learned.

I am not a very careful person when it comes to taking care of expensive clothes. Most of them are dry clean only, so they just keep costing me more money every time I wear it. For the majority of us, every penny is hard earned and we definitely need to be smart about how we use it. Another reason I was turned away from designer clothing is I rarely can find a great brand for my petite frame. It seems like they are all designed for tall people. 😉 So I hardly buy any designer clothing. The only thing I buy is designer jeans and my Burberry trench coat because they are super comfy and easy to take care of.

Why Buying Designer Accessory is Worth the Investment

Clothing may make up the majority of an outfit, but accessories are the ones to define your style and either make an outfit or break a look. As Giorgio Armani once said, “Accessories are important and becoming more and more important every day”. If you are trying to upgrade your look, there is no need to buy designer clothes, just put your money into accessories. By mixing high end accessories and main stream clothing, you can create so many different looks that make you feel like a million bucks. Here are some key things you want to invest in.

Why Buying Designer Accessory is Worth the Investment

1. Start with a Designer Bag

My late husband used his bonus and bought this red Louis Vuitton for me about 2 years ago. It was my first major designer investment. Before that I had bought many Michael Kors, Kate Spade and Coach. I have used this bag millions of times when I needed a splash of color for an outfit. I love the size and cross body straps, as these features make it a practical bag that can be worn for day, and then remove the straps for night. I still get many, many comments on this bag every time I use it. I have not seen anyone else using the same bag. It is surely well made. Although it has been in the rain and constantly put on the floor or ground, it still looks brand new. I am sure I will use it for many, many more years. Below are a few recent looks where I used this bag.

This little Chanel was purchased for me by my late husband a year ago. He knew I always wanted a Chanel but I just couldn’t see myself spending that large amount of money like that. So he took me to Saks 5th and bought this for me. He said he was very happy to be the man who bought my dream bag for me. This bag is a limited edition and I love the vintage metal top handle. Again, I love a bag with straps and this one has them too. It is a little bit smaller than I had hoped, but I still love it very very much! Below are a few recent looks where I used this bag.

After I bought the red Louis Vuitton and the black Chanel bag, I sold all my other bags because I just didn’t use them anymore. If I need a color to spice up an outfit, I use my red one. If I need a black bag to calm down a bold look, I use the Chanel. Don’t you see? Here is where the saving money is showing. Each designer bags is quite pricey, but I don’t need to keep buying bags because they are good enough to use for just about everything and last forever.

Below are a few other designer bags that I have invested in over the past few years.

A few key things to keep in mind when investing in Designer Accessories:

Is it a classic style that will always be in style? Avoid the “in the moment” trendy items that aren’t “in” every season. Pick classic styles, colors, shapes, and designs that will always be in style.

While it can seem stressful investing an entire paycheck into buying one single designer piece, if you follow the tips above, you can have peace of mind knowing that you’re spending your money wisely by investing in an item that will last for years and years, instead of wasting money on cheap knocks offs that break within months.
