Life After Loss The first Thanksgiving Without My Late Husband

Life After Loss The first Thanksgiving Without My Late Husband

With 10 months of experience grieving, I learned one trick—Create new memories. So for this first Thanksgiving without my late husband, I decided to not go to my brother-in-law’s house like we have done almost every year, but instead to go with my friends to a Chinese buffet. I know, it sounds very sad, but I didn’t mind this idea. I didn’t want to ruin others holiday because I couldn’t help crying.

Then a great opportunity came up right before the holiday. I was invited to LA as Charming Charlie‘s Winter Ambassador. You can read more details in this post ” #Charmbassador—The Face of Charming Charlie’s Winter Campaign.” Both of my late husband’s sisters live near LA, so I decided to spend the first Thanksgiving with them. A friend told me my man probably knew I was struggling with the holiday, so he made this happen. I hope he can use all his secret powers to help me through the holidays. 😉

My step-daughter was quite relieved when she heard this option and felt less guilty because they had planned to go to her fiance’s parents. I suggested we host our own family Thanksgiving at my house on the Saturday after I got back. So, we had two Thanksgivings. I was a little bit moody this past Saturday before our second Thanksgiving dinner because that day was the 10 month mark of my man passing away. Later that day, with all the busy cooking and playing with my grandkids, the normal happy me came back again. My family requested that I cook some Chinese dumplings and they called them Thanksgiving dumplings (just like regular dumplings, but on Thanksgiving!). Lol, yes, I am all into creating new traditions and new memories.

When I was in LA, I had an amazing time working on the photo shoot and video filming for Charming Charlie. It made it very clear again how much I love doing this fashion gig. 🙂 I was also quite fortunate to meet several amazing fashion bloggers in LA. I loved very much to listen to their stories and hang out with them. All the conversations were so heart warming and enlightening.

I am very grateful that even after my man was gone, I still feel the love from him, and our family. I would not be who I am today without him. I would not be so strong without my amazing family and friends. Especially those friends who I have not met, and maybe we will never meet, in person, but who constantly leave super uplifting comments or send long messages to support me. The first Thanksgiving without my man turned out to not be bad as I thought. Thanks to everyone who made my day so much easier!
