Life After Loss—Full Time Blogging

Three years ago on December 7th, I had just started my blog โ€œColor and Grace,โ€ I was day dreaming every morning when I was driving to my teaching job, that someday I would be able to do full time blogging. Then after 6 months, I ran all the numbers and set a goal for myself. The goal was after 3 years of blogging, I would be able to quit my full time teaching job and do my blogging instead.

Today, 13 days later than I originally planned, I finally did, and today is my first day of full time blogging.

I should have let my school know this past summer that I would not come back, but I chickened out at the last second, because now it is just me. If I don’t make it, there is no one behind me and telling me “no worries, I got you.โ€ Quickly after the new school year started, I realized that my fast growing blog and my full time teaching job left me no time to eat or sleep. A few health issues accrued and I realized that I had to make a choice.

I spent a few weeks researching, writing my business plan, and trying new things out to generate income for my blog. Soon after, I followed through with my business plan. I got more sponsors and my life became even more crazy busy. At end of October, my health issues became more and more serious. I know there is never a great time to do it, so just manned up and got it done. So I informed my school of my decision.

Luckily I have a great school. They are sad that I am leaving but also very happy that I finally decided to pursue my dream. We all felt that we should keep the news that I am leaving as long as we could so my students would have a few more normal months. Last Friday, was the day I announced to all my students, their parents and the whole school that I was leaving. It was a very emotional day for all of us. Besides a lot of tears, there was so much laughter too. My middle school students plan to kidnap me so I would not leave them. ๐Ÿ˜‰ One of my sweet 6th graders asked me “Are you having a midlife crisis?” Lol, not exactly, but it sure looks like in it a lot of peoples eyes.

This year is for sure a special one on the record. I lost my husband in January and now in December I quit my job. The past 11 months have been the period that I learned about and rediscovered for myself who I am and who I want to be. I have finally come to the conclusion that I have the ability to make my dream become a reality. This realization has totally changed the way I think and my entire life. That is some confidence that I have never had before. So now, all I need to do is to dream, plan and make it happen!
