Effortless Elegance from Edward Mongzar

Effortless Elegance from Edward Mongzar

I have worked with many brands and designers the last two and a half years. But Edward Mongzar is the one who definitely stood out. Why? Read the email from them below:

Effortless elegance from Edward Mongzar

“Our designer Edward has seen you wear lots of ethical pieces recently and when he found your blog and read about your story, he just fell in love with it! He really would love to send you a garment from his Spring / Summer ’17 collection! We really love your happy energy, your love of colors and your complete honesty, the stories you have shared about your life are really inspiring and Edward and I really believe that our brand is made for people like you! Your love for life really comes across well through your blog and YouTube and it’s great to learn in your blog about where your love of fashion began.”

Did you see? Fashion is meaningless without human connection and emotional bonding. Even before seeing any of their pieces, I already liked them a lot. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Then I did some research and afterwards I found I like this designer, Edward Mongzar, even more. Wonder why? Read his own quote below:

โ€œI am not selling art, history or the future. I am just a designer trying to make the best out of my creative ability to make beautiful clothesโ€

I love an honest person, and I love how humble and practical he is. It kinda fits in with my current life philosophy too. I believe, for an adult, the best thing we can do is know who we are and be the best we can be. There is no need to dream of changing the world. Simply being the best of yourself is already making the world a better place.

Edward Mongzar started this ready-to-wear, handcrafted Luxury womenswear label back to 2015 in the UK. He has two specialties incorporated into his designs, one is “Marbling” and the another is Hand Woven Fabrics.

The top below is an example of the Marbling technique. Marbling has origins deep set in the days of the Tโ€™ang dynasty of China, spreading widely to Japan, India, Iran and Turkey via the Silk Road. Historically, marble dyeing has been exclusive to paper. With the growing interest in marbling on fabric, Edward Mongzar has successfully brought the mediums of marbling and luxury fashion to life, with marble dyeing on luxury fabrics.

This top is very well made of flowery silk with unique marbling patterns. The cold shoulder is so right now. It is for sure a one of a kind color pattern piece because there are no two pieces exactly the same due to the marbling process.

Now let’s take a look at this Hand Woven Fabric top below. This piece is created using the traditional handloom weaving technique of Nagaland, India. It takes days to create even a very small garment.

I really love the color of this top and it is another well made example. Did you see the shape of the sleeves? It is not super dramatic, but adds on some cute flair.

From both tops, I can tell that Edward is good at creating garments with simple silhouettes, yet they remain innovative. I do feel effortless elegance when I am wearing Edward Mongzar clothes. I am thinking I may take both of them to Paris next month when I go. ๐Ÿ˜‰

19th Annual Women Helping Women Luncheon and Fashion Show

19th Annual Women Helping Women Luncheon and Fashion Show

Saturday, May 6, I was invited to the 19th Annual Women Helping Women Luncheon and Fashion Show hosted by the Grace Centers of Hope at the beautiful Royal Park Hotel in Rochester, Michigan.

19th Annual Women Helping Women Luncheon and Fashion Show

The fashion show luncheon benefits the Womenโ€™s programs at Grace Centers of Hope, one of the largest homeless and rehabilitation centers in southeast Michigan. The fashion show featured women in the program alongside professional models to showcase spring fashions.

Grace Centers of Hope allows addicted and abused individuals to live in a safe community with boundaries, accountability, life skills classes, and counseling. I really like the One Year Life Skills Program for all the local women who needs their life back. I am never a big fan of just donating money to those is in need. I believe giving them the ability to be independent is the real salvation.

You can watch this FB live for the beginning of the show hosted by TV20 host Ann Marie LaFlamme.

I have to say, this is such a powerful event which showcases the women & children of Grace Centers of Hope and their amazing journey through this program. When fashion has a purpose, it becomes so much more meaningful. Here is another short FB live story by one of the women who is in this program.

Here is more info about this women’s program from their website just in case if you are wondering what exactly they do. ๐Ÿ˜‰

“This one-year rehabilitation program helps homeless women and families transition to stable housing, sobriety, and employment…”

Services in the Life Skills Program include:
Daily Meals
Clothing
Personal Hygiene

Ok, now let’s talk about the fabulous fashion show. This high fashion event featured top designers from Michigan, Bonnie Foley, creator of Christian LaRue, Katerina Bocci who just launched her bridal collection and Cynthia LaMaid who has dressed the stars like Jennifer Aniston and Lenny Kravitz. I have been to a lot of luncheons and fashion shows, I have to say this is one of the most organized and high quality shows. Everything is on time and efficient.
