My first How to video—How to style layered winter outfits by using plaid shirt

Hi everyone!
Welcome to my first video. I think it is pretty obvious that I am not a trained actor! And sorry if my pronunciation and accent are a bit difficult. I’ve been in America for almost 8 years but English still gives me trouble sometimes. But I’m trying hard and will get better. And my videos will too! I promise! Anyway, please take a look and I hope you enjoy it.
Cheers!
Grace

How to style a plaid shirt

Snow dazed!

If you’re reading this post that probably means you’re on my blog website. I also hope it means you’ve read a bit about me on my bio page. If so, you know I was born and raised in northeastern China. Among other things that means cold nasty winters! I remember sitting in my grade school classroom and not being able to feel the pencil in my fingers. So when I got of age, I figured that enough was enough and moved to Shanghai. Although not what you would call the Deep South, but it’s generally much warmer there than my hometown. I got used to the steamy summers and loved the mild winters. I gave away my snow boots and winter coats and got used to being able to wear skirts and dresses year round. Then I met my future husband. Like many Americans working in China he was in Shanghai for his job in the automotive industry. And in America that means Detroit, the Motor City. So when I moved to America I went right back to those long dark cold winters I thought I was finished with! Oh well, the things you do for love! But it’s not all bad news. On my blog you will see outfits that you can actually wear if you aren’t one of those lucky folks who have to worry about coconuts falling on their heads. This week’s posts will feature outerwear that you can go out to wear and still look stylish. Stay warm!

If you’ve been paying attention you will have learned about my on and off and on love with the classic plaid button down shirt. I’ve forgiven their stodgy former appearance and they, in turn, have gotten much more fitted and cool. Especially this time of year I like how they look when layered with a sweater and coat or jacket. This particular shirt has a burgundy base color so that was my foundation. When starting with a plaid pattern you usually have a few colors that you can build from but the rich burgundy is always one of my go to anchor shades because it can blend with so many others.

I used the shirt to cover a slightly redder wine colored sweater. I wanted to keep the rest of the outfit clean and smooth so my always ready to chill leather skinnies got tasked with keeping my legs warm and stylish. To make sure the cold stays out where it’s supposed to, my leather and leopard print booties and winter white faux fur jacket did their job. A hat in the Michigan winter not only makes sense but it also makes an on trend fashion statement. My black wool hat features some colorful feathers at the band that play off the shirt, sweater and booties and pull this outfit together nicely. The black leather quilted bag adds a bit of sophisticated shine with the double row metal chain strap and dangles. Even in winter the sun shines so I like to see through and be seen with my cool white sunnies. I never like to be all casual or all formal so really love the just right balance from this look.
