Blog Anniversary—Color and Grace Turns 3!

Blog Anniversary—Color and Grace Turns 3!

December 7th will mark the 3 year birthday of my blog, Color and Grace. Three years, almost 600 posts, and it averages 3.9 posts a week. Yes, I used to post EVERY SINGLE day! I know, I am quite crazy. 😉 During the 3 years, my life has had so many changes. The biggest one has to have been my man getting cancer and then passing away. Even during the toughest times, I still kept up with my posts and have not missed a single day.

You may wonder how to be successful at blogging. I have to tell you, first, that I don’t consider myself successful yet. Second, there is really no secret. For me, it is all about hard work and dedication. Just day in and day out, day after day creating the best outfit, taking the best photos and writing the best post as I can. A few days ago someone asked what my plans are this weekend, I answered work on photos and blog posts. Then that friend said, Sunday is supposed to be a relaxing day. I suddenly realized that I have not had a regular weekend for 3 years. My weekends are always blog work since I am a full time teacher during the weekdays.

Three years ago, when I just started my blog, I was super excited and day dreamed of someday being like those big bloggers who were invited to all kinds of cool fashion events and who got to collaborate with many famous brands. At that time, I told myself my time limit would be 3 years. If after 3 years I am still not seeing the future I want to, then I will stop.

Luckily, I have started to see it now. This year especially has been a great year for my blogging career. In April, I had the honor of working with former TV host from What Not to Wear Stacy London. You can read all about that amazing experience here, here and here. Then this fall I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to interview Steve Madden, who is the man behind the shoe and accessory empire, Steve Madden. You can read about that experience here. Just recently, I was chosen as Charming Charlie’s Winter Ambassador. You can read about that here.

In the 3rd year, I expanded my horizon to become a lifestyle blogger, not just fashion blogger any more. I have talked more about beauty, travel, and self-motivation. I am quite lucky to have the chance to work with many big brands and department stores as well. Another goal I had when I started my blog 3 years ago was to eventually make my blog a full time job and I can see it happening soon too. 😉 I am still on my way to reaching my dreams and I am glad that I didn’t give up.

Life After Loss The first Thanksgiving Without My Late Husband

Life After Loss The first Thanksgiving Without My Late Husband

With 10 months of experience grieving, I learned one trick—Create new memories. So for this first Thanksgiving without my late husband, I decided to not go to my brother-in-law’s house like we have done almost every year, but instead to go with my friends to a Chinese buffet. I know, it sounds very sad, but I didn’t mind this idea. I didn’t want to ruin others holiday because I couldn’t help crying.

Then a great opportunity came up right before the holiday. I was invited to LA as Charming Charlie‘s Winter Ambassador. You can read more details in this post ” #Charmbassador—The Face of Charming Charlie’s Winter Campaign.” Both of my late husband’s sisters live near LA, so I decided to spend the first Thanksgiving with them. A friend told me my man probably knew I was struggling with the holiday, so he made this happen. I hope he can use all his secret powers to help me through the holidays. 😉

My step-daughter was quite relieved when she heard this option and felt less guilty because they had planned to go to her fiance’s parents. I suggested we host our own family Thanksgiving at my house on the Saturday after I got back. So, we had two Thanksgivings. I was a little bit moody this past Saturday before our second Thanksgiving dinner because that day was the 10 month mark of my man passing away. Later that day, with all the busy cooking and playing with my grandkids, the normal happy me came back again. My family requested that I cook some Chinese dumplings and they called them Thanksgiving dumplings (just like regular dumplings, but on Thanksgiving!). Lol, yes, I am all into creating new traditions and new memories.

When I was in LA, I had an amazing time working on the photo shoot and video filming for Charming Charlie. It made it very clear again how much I love doing this fashion gig. 🙂 I was also quite fortunate to meet several amazing fashion bloggers in LA. I loved very much to listen to their stories and hang out with them. All the conversations were so heart warming and enlightening.

I am very grateful that even after my man was gone, I still feel the love from him, and our family. I would not be who I am today without him. I would not be so strong without my amazing family and friends. Especially those friends who I have not met, and maybe we will never meet, in person, but who constantly leave super uplifting comments or send long messages to support me. The first Thanksgiving without my man turned out to not be bad as I thought. Thanks to everyone who made my day so much easier!
