The Best Choker Necklace Trends How to Wear a Choker
Thanks to an overall ’90s resurgence, this choker‘s a trend that’s been creeping back. In my memory, it is always associated with the dark smoky eyes and a lot of metal accessories. It is kind of a symbol of the punk rock scene for me. But in fact, the choker can be made of a variety of materials including velvet, lace, pearls, rhinestone or leather to dress up or down for everyday cool girls. So there’s a very good reason your favorite ’90s staple has somehow gotten huge again. It adds a little bit of an edgy (think “rock star”) vibe to even the simplest of looks.
Trends always come and go. Just like most trends in the fashion world, chokers are nothing new. I had quite a collection of vintage chokers that I found at thrift stores. But you can’t just dig into your grandma’s jewelry box to find one to wear. Every year when the old trends come back, they always have some new twist. And that is the fun part of fashion. Predictable yet unpredictable.
So what is the new twist about this new choker trend? For me, it is either super delicate, or very heavy metal. And I do love the variety of ways they can be layered with other necklaces.
If I was 20 years younger, I probably will try the cool dark leather with metal chains. Lol. But now, being on the more experienced side of a 40s sophisticated woman, I would rather wear a pearl one. In order to add that dramatic vibe, it must be black.
Have you tried this trend yet? What is your interpretation? I used the same choker for a dressy style like you see below.
I also wore it as you see today with a polished casual look as well. Which one do you like better?
Below are some cute chokers that you may want to give it a try!

Somebody said your childhood decides who you are when you are all grown up. I guess that is most likely true. I wore my brother’s hand-me-down clothes till the second year of my high school. So I was looking like and acting more like a boy than a fashion blogger. There were a lot of times people mistook me as a little brother instead of sister. 😉
I probably didn’t help change those ideas. I had no dolls or toys to play with so spent time with my friends by chasing them around and a fair amount of tree climbing. I guess these earliest times added quite the edgy vibe to my personality and my style. Although mainly I now keep the elegant and classy feel with a colorful fun twist but once in a while, I would love to go back to my cool-girl roots.
Do you like my interpretation of the cool-girl look? I really like this Black Lace-Up Knit Bodysuit I got from the Lookbook Store. I already wore it pretty much non-stop and got a lot of complements. The best part? It fits perfectly and it is only $19 now. I’m wearing a size 6. I could have gone with a size 4 but I was not sure how much stretch it had so I would rather it is a little bit looser. This cool Grey Studded Shoulder Denim Blazer is also from the the Lookbook Store. It fits me perfectly too and it is very warm. I know, spring is here but for us Michigan residents, we still have some quite chilly nights and mornings. And now this jacket is only $45. Another bonus, it is worldwide free shipping!
I am all into mixing highs and lows this year. And this look is the perfect example how I do it. I spent most of my budget on basic but really well made pieces, like this red LV bag. I can use it as a clutch or just for a day look with the cross body strap. The pop of red gives this look a more vibrant color and class.
For me you can’t really pull off a cool-girl vibe without adding leather. A bad to the bone leather jacket is usually the best bet. But a pair of sharp leather loafers are quite capable of pulling off a pleasant surprise. Cool-girls don’t always have to wear black, or at least not all black. You can take the edge off that tough girl with a feminine twist. Like say mixing a leather skirt with a soft pink blouse for an interesting contrast.
