Graded by Grace —FirmOO glasses review

Welcome to a new month and the new and hopefully improved ColorAndGrace.com! I’m always working hard to make my blog better. A big part of that is being more and more useful to you, my wonderful readers! After all, if it weren’t for you, I would just be talking to myself. And who needs even more people thinking you’re weird? 😉 Anyway, I’m going to try a Daily Special menu.

Monday will have fresh home grown “Fashion 101″ posts. This is where I share my unique expertise to pass along color and fashion wit and wisdom. Tuesday will feature “Fashion Chinese Take-Out“. Join me as I let you know what’s going on half way around the world. Most of your clothes come from there, how about your next look? Next is “Graded by Grace” on Wednesday. You’ll see how products I use did on their report card and also some shopping suggestions that will earn you extra credit! ”Throwback Thursday” will relive and re-laugh some of my adventures and travels. The workweek wraps up on Friday with “They Got It Right!” Here I’ll share a few photos of other bloggers who “got it” with the trend topic of the week! Then to jumpstart your weekend I highlight the week that was in “Fashion Gossip” on Saturday. Hey! What about Sunday you ask? Oh knock it off! The weather is getting better and I deserve at least one day off a week! I’m looking for your input, so don’t be shy!

Well the end of the school year is getting close and I’m sure you all are wondering about your grades! You’re in luck because this is the first Graded by Grace post. If you’ve been paying attention you may know that I am a teacher in my day job so am pretty familiar with handing out grades. Of course to do my job it always helps if I can see clearly. Now with that incredibly clever segue I’m going to be talking about FirmOO.com, which is an online seller of prescription eyewear. I got my first pair of prescription eyeglasses when I was living in Shanghai, China. I simply went into the nearest eyewear store, got my eyes checked and ordered some pretty trendy glasses and came back in a few days to pick them up. The total was somewhere in the $75-$100 range when converted to dollars. So you can probably imagine my shock when I moved to America a couple years later and needed an updated pair. Even with my husband’s insurance we had to pay almost $400 for my next pair of glasses! It was enough to make me see cross-eyed! At my new job I don’t even have vision insurance so wasn’t looking forward much to getting my next pair. That was until I heard of FirmOO.com.

My prescription was still pretty good but my glasses and frames were getting a bit old. When I saw that I could get a new pair of cool looking eyewear at a bargain price I had a couple thoughts. I always am a bit wary of internet deals. Who hasn’t had a bad online experience at some point? So my first stop was to check them out. I use a website called ScamAdvisor.com to look into sites that I’m not familiar with. They had good things to say. Although I hadn’t heard of FirmOO it seems they’ve been around for several years. Good enough to give them a try. I went online and found some cute frames I liked. In fact it was hard to narrow it down to one. They have a super useful feature on their site where you can see your choice on people of different hair colors and skin tones. This is a great way to get an idea of how they will look on you; and a very clever way to overcome the one big problem of online shopping; not being able to try things on.

Once I created my account on the website it was easy peasy to enter my prescription info, choose my frame and lens options and place my order. Now was when FirmOO really shines. The other part of a lot of online experiences that has people not seeing clearly is letting you know what’s going on. I got an email immediately telling me the order was received. The next day I got another email telling me they were processing my new glasses. They let me know when they were shipped and when I could expect them. Then they actually showed up before the promised date. Next was a follow up email to make sure everything was good and to let them know if I had any problems. After several customer service nightmares, dealing with FirmOO was a great experience! Oh, and yes, I got back under the $100 mark which brought my bottom line right back in focus! So how about the glasses? Take a look at the pictures in this post. I’m loving the look, from both sides of the lenses! I can see great, and I think look great. If that’s not a win-win, I don’t know what is!

I heard a lot about Rocksbox and everything I heard was good feedback. I even went online to check about reviews and I saw rating of 4.5 stars out of 5. So I did a little bit of digging about this company. Here is what I found out:

Founded in 2012 by Meaghan Rose & Maia Bittner, the San Francisco-based startup has raised $1.5 million in seed funding. Their main business is the new way of shopping which is called Jewelry Subscription service. Basically you pay a very small amount of money every month but you can wear the fancy designer jewelry pieces which normally you may not be able to purchase. With RocksBox you can experiment with different looks, discover the latest designers, wear new pieces all the time, and only buy the jewelry that you truly love.

RocksBox is kind of like your personal Jewelry Stylist. Actually there is a RocksBox personal stylist who works for me. Mine is Kathy and she left a message on my account page to let me know what she picked for me after I took the style quiz. RocksBox will send you 3 pieces of designer jewelry based on your personalized style quiz results.

If you love the pieces RocksBox sent, then you can purchase any of them at discounted member prices.  Here are the 3 pieces I received.

If you like the jewelry RocksBox sent but don’t want to purchase them, all you have to do is send them back. The cool thing is you can wear pieces for up to 60 days with no obligation. That’s two full months of bling! Return the ones you decided didn’t make the cut with the postage paid envelope. As soon as RocksBox receives your return they will send you 3 new pieces.  If you really want to mix it up there’s no need to wait the 60 days. You can return pieces to RocksBox as often as you want. You can even return pieces to them several times a month and get shiny new ones each time.  You’re not limited to 3 pieces per month.  There’s nothing like shopping from the comfort of your own home and there’s no more convenient way to keep up with the newest trends every month! If you don’t like the pieces RocksBox sent you, then just simply return them in the postage paid envelope and they will send you new ones. If you decide it just isn’t working out, don’t worry, it is very easy to cancel this service as well.
