Yay. Monday. But I really can’t complain. We had another nice weekend. There’s a couple more empty wine bottles for the recycle bin. After all, I always like to do my part for the environment! We took another batch of photos on Saturday. You’re seeing some of them today! It was c-c-cold but sunny so we had to make the best of it. My husband is my photographer so got to get frostbite along with me. It seems that misery really does love company! He’s a bit older than I am. I don’t want to say how old but his first camera was black and white! Well, maybe not quite that bad. Anyway, we have our new Sony α6000 now for a few weeks and are really loving it. Like most technology we’re probably using about 10% of it’s capability but learning more every time! So maybe there’s hope for us yet!
I like to keep up with current trends so subscribe to a few fashion magazines. One of my go to mags is People Style Watch. In the Style Guide section in the current issue they’re featuring clothing with a lip pattern. It just so happens that I have a piece highlighting that very design. Actually I probably have something in my closet for almost any category topic but that’s a story for another day! Anyway, with ready inspiration in mind it seemed an easy call to go with that theme in today’s post. It’s very true in fashion as in many things that what was once old will one day be new again. I’ve actually had my black sweater with the big sequined red lips for quite a while. It makes an appearance several times a year and seems especially appropriate around Valentines Day. I think it’s a fun piece and has always been an attention getter. And now to find out it brings me back to being on trend it seems like it was definitely the right decision way back then.
When I create an outfit I always try to find a color on the key piece that becomes the foundation. The rest of the look will either stay with the same family or go with the opposite side of the color chart for contrast. Here of course that meant red. Those big red lips are really in your face if you’ll pardon the pun, so that was my base. I went with a red wine colored floral hem chiffon skirt to add a bit of depth and texture. Keeping it all in the family I echoed the skirt with similar color heels. The other color on the sweater and the rest of the outfit is basic but never boring black. If you’ve read any of my previous posts you know that simply won’t do. I always need that kiss of pop color. Here, I used a never fail leopard print purse to add that so important 3rd color. For me I always believe a well balanced outfit should draw from 3 colors. After all everyone knows that if you sit on a stool with only 2 legs you’ll end up on the ground!
