All that white stuff has me seeing red!
We’re still digging out from Super Bowl Sunday’s Super Snowfall! It was a good news bad news thing as usual. I did get Monday off for a snow day but we were trapped in our house until they came through and plowed our street! It’s in these sorts of times when you really find out how good your neighbors are. And ours are great! Before my husband even started our snowblower our sidewalk had already been cleaned. He had to clear the driveway and the street in front of our house because when the snow plow comes through it just dumps whatever is on the road back into our driveway and we can’t get our cars out! Of course nothing is ever as easy as it should be and our old snowblower wound up breaking before he could finish up. But between our trusty snowshovel and our great neighbors we got through it.
My husband and I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day that much. We think of it as mostly a good marketing job for restaurants, chocolate companies and florists. I mean they triple the price of a dozen roses and then try to put huge pressure on single people to pay up to show their love. Luckily my husband and I feel like everyday is Valentine’s Day for us. One thing I do like about it is the color red. That’s also the dominant color for my favorite holiday, Chinese New Year. This year Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day are in the same week. I figured that I could wear some red and it would pull double duty for both holidays. I started with my red and black hounds tooth pattern coat. Hounds tooth is a classic print and always comes across very chic. The black and red large pattern was already pretty bold so I kept the rest of my look clean and uncluttered; for me that means basic but never boring black. My black hair is actually a natural accessory and plays off my black leather skinnies and wide black belt. A belt like this is a great choice as it cinches my waist to emphasize the shape that I want.
Keeping the length of the coat above the knee helps make me look taller than I am. I added a bright blue pop of color with my small velvet clutch purse. The long shiny chain strap and accents help to bling up the outfit. Once I went inside I swapped the coat for a long flowered shirt to create a classic and effortless look. This is an outfit that’s ready to go out on the town. Most people feel safe in black or dark colors when they leave for a date night so other than the colorful coat I kept the rest of my outfit very low key. But dark doesn’t necessarily mean serious. I wanted to continue the fun and feminine vibe that I started with the flowered shirt so used a sweater with a cute bow pattern to make sure the mostly dark look got the chance to lighten up.
