When I first moved to America, my husband and I didn’t have much disposable income. So for that year’s vacation, we figured we’d better try to stick to our budget and stay away from the airports. Instead, we went on a road trip around Lake Michigan. I remember we drove through a small corner of Indiana and then crawled through the terrible traffic in Chicago. We had left on a Sunday and thought we would have easy travelling, but it seems the Windy City is busy 7 days a week. The first night we made it into Wisconsin and stayed at a Bed and Breakfast (B & B) Inn. This was an old farmhouse a bit out of town. We knew we were arriving after hours, so the owners had told us in a letter how to find our way and get into our room And please be quiet because they would be sleeping! It was very nice but the bed we had was so small we almost fell out several times that night. The home cooked breakfast was great though and made up for the tiny room and bed. The owners were super nice and served us secret recipe crepes and fresh corn on the cob for breakfast. I thought this was a bit unusual but they said when the corn was in season they had it for every meal. After breakfast, we went sightseeing at the Wisconsin Dells. These are some islands in interesting shapes in the middle of a river. What we didn’t know was that the year before, there had been a terrible flood. A whole lake that had been there was now gone! This pretty much is the story of my life. No matter what I do or where I go, it seems I just missed the best time! Even the town of Wisconsin Dells was now mostly filled with touristy stores selling cheap souvenirs and T-shirts with rude sayings on them. The owner at the B & B told us that the city wanted to attract more visitors so opened up their laws to bring in businesses. But it seemed what they got was the kind they didn’t really want! It just goes to prove the old saying, you better be careful what you ask for because you might get it!
I think the thing that surprises me most about having my blog is how much I really enjoy communicating with you readers! I feel that I have made real friends and I wasn’t expecting that. So I want you to know that when I see comments and suggestions from you, I take them to heart. When someone wondered if I had other shades of lipstick, I knew to put away my current favorite and grab a new color. And when I read where someone thought a different hairstyle might be interesting, I grabbed my brush and got to work. Not to say I’m open to cutting it super short or going blond, but I like to keep my customers happy and also challenge myself in the process. I feel it’s the same with my wardrobe. Even though Michigan is currently in a deep freeze, I know that for the fashion world, spring is just around the corner. So, I’m putting away my boots and cashmere and you will start to see some spring wardrobe looks. I have to warn you though; most of my photo shoots will be inside my house instead of out in the snow covered yard. I love you all but not enough to risk frostbite!
Today, I’m going with a bit more of a casual look, featuring my classic skinny jeans. A white and grey button down shirt and faux fur vest really gives a fun weekend vibe to this look, and why not? Spring break is coming up next month and my husband and I are starting to plan out our travels. We’re looking at a road trip this year. Gas is still pretty reasonable so we thought we’d take advantage of it. Plus, the only limit on how many clothes I can take is what will fit in our trunk! I’m already putting together my travel wardrobe and am pretty excited to share our adventures on my blog and social media. I told my husband he’s in charge of making all the reservations and I’m OK with any place, as long as they have WiFi! This week, I’m also starting to feature more info about my jewelry. I’ve mentioned some pieces before and told how I love to pick up a vintage pin, necklace or bracelet when I’m at a yard sale or thrift store. With the warmer weather come shorter sleeves. I still want to have an accent pop of color, and a bit of bling on my wrist often does the trick quite nicely and on trend. I love the feel, look and sound of layering several bracelets, a wristwatch and chains while mixing in some rings and charms. The look you get by mixing sizes, materials and styles can really make a statement.
