Petite fashion—crop top and long skirt
I am not sure if you already noticed, but I am a petite and I am only 5 feet tall. In China we believe the shorties have the better brains. 😉 Anyway, For a petite person like me, long skirts can be pretty challenging. But when I paired it with a crop top, the problem was solved. 🙂

My endless driving story continues…
Tag! You’re it!

Northern Michigan isn’t what you could call mountainous but there are some pretty good sized hills; actually quite a lot of them. So when they were building the Interstate highway system it seemed a lot easier to have the road go up and down the hills than to make the hills flat. And that’s what they did. Like I said, these weren’t mountains and pretty much all of the modern cars that people drive have no problems at all with getting up and over the top. They may not be race cars but they all seem to have enough power in their motors to keep up with the 70 miles per hour speed limit. The big semi trucks that share these roads however don’t have that same ability. Of course when they are loaded up with thousands and thousands of pounds of whatever they are carrying it’s understandable. You can only fit so much motor in one of these trucks. So when they are loaded down they often have trouble keeping up to the speed limit when they are going up a hill, especially a long hill. It happened that on my first time behind the wheel while driving on the freeway I was on the same part of the highway with one of these huge trucks. My husband/driving teacher had decided that it would be a good chance for me to get some high speed experience. We had pulled over at a roadside rest area to take a bathroom break and when I got back to the car, he had taken my seat. But these rest areas were spaced only about 40 minutes apart and he said that my assignment would only be to get us to the next one down the road.

Anyway, this truck driver had almost crushed me like an ant when I was first getting on the freeway but he was going so fast he was out of sight before I even got up to the speed limit. But as it turned out, I caught back up to him on a very long uphill part of the freeway when he wasn’t able to keep up his speed. I didn’t want to be stuck behind him so I pulled over into the passing lane to get around. It took longer than I expected to get past this crazy long truck; so long that another car that had been far behind me got the chance to get right on my rear bumper! And he made it pretty clear that he not only wanted around, but he wanted it NOW! I sped up even more and finally passed the truck and that car zipped around me, passing in the slow lane and scaring me in the process. But even though I had gotten around the truck he wasn’t about to get out of my life. As I finally drove over the top of the hill and started to relax again that truck had also gotten on the downhill part of the freeway. And for him it meant he could pick up speed again. All of a sudden he was coming up on my left side and passing me! Once we had crossed that ridge of hills into northern Michigan that meant that we would be going up one hill and down the next over and over until we got to my husband’s parents home. So sure enough, not too much further in front of me this truck was again struggling to make it up the next hill. Great, I got another chance to practice my passing on the freeway skills! This time was different. The uphill part of the road wasn’t nearly as long as the last one so I didn’t even get completely past the truck before we got to the top of the hill.

I was inching closer to the driver’s door and getting ready to pull back over in front of him when he started to pick up speed too. I’m not sure where he was going that day but he certainly seemed to be in a hurry to get there! Anyway, before I could get around him enough to pull back over, he started going faster than I was. But it was taking a while. These trucks don’t do anything quickly. They can go pretty fast but it takes them a while to get up to that speed. I had my car’s cruise control set to 70mph and this time there weren’t any other cars in my mirror so I was content to let him pull ahead until I had room to move back over into the slow lane and continue on my way. This took quite a while. I guess altogether, I was probably next to this truck for a couple of miles. It was then that I noticed that my husband/driving teacher was laughing to himself. This was never a good sign: Especially when I was in one of my driving lessons. When I asked him what was going on, he let me know that while I was stuck on the other side of that truck, going up and down the hills we had gone past the next rest area! That was where I was supposed to get out of the driver’s seat! And to make matters worse, he also informed me that there were no more rest areas before we came to our exit to go to my in-laws! You’ve GOT to be kidding me! What else could happen? You’ll find out in the next part! Thanks so much for coming back and I really hope you’re enjoying the ride!
