Did you know Pantone announced the hottest color for 2015 is Marsala?
Have you ever heard about Pantone colors? In fact Pantone is a company’s name. The company is best known for its Pantone Matching System (The other PMS!), a proprietary color space used in a variety of industries, primarily printing, colored paint, fabric, and plastics. Pantone is a standardized color matching system, utilizing the Pantone numbering system for identifying colors. By standardizing the colors, different manufacturers in different locations can all reference a Pantone numbered color, making sure colors match without direct contact with one another.
Then how the heck does a company have the authority to decide what color is the the hottest color of the year? Well, they didn’t just guess! Basically they got data from all the major designers and brands. If they see a particular color is used more for next year’s design and fashion offerings, then they can accurately predict what the hottest color will be. It’s pretty much all up to us. If we don’t care about the big brands, design stars or celebrities, those colors will not mean a thing at all. Makes you feel pretty powerful, right?
But we are all fashion victims! 😉
For me, marsala is more for fall or winter. But now in full on spring you can see this color all over the street on cool bloggers or celebs. If you asked me what I learned from my blogging career, I would say :”Fashion has no rules!” Pretty much as soon as you think you’ve got it all figured out you see something that completely surprises you! I guess that’s what keeps it so interesting.
I love marsala very much, simply because it is a very rich, sophisticated color. When I was young I didn’t appreciate it as much as now. The more mature me agrees with the color experts at Pantone when they said in their announcement “Sensual and appealing, Marsala is a compelling and cordial tone that nurtures; exuding confidence and stability while feeding the body, mind and soul.”
So now that you know you need it, how can you use this mature color in your daily life? Here are some tips:
1. If you are not sure if is the just right color for you, then start with baby steps. Use it as a small accent color. For example, lips, jewelry, shoes, hat or bag.
2. Pair it with all black or a classic black and white combo.
3. Pair it with blue or grey:
4. Try blue jeans:
5. Tan is always a safe bet:
6. Similar colors play very well together.:
7. Animal lover? Here you go with a Leopard print!
8.If you are brave enough, try a complementary color, such as mustard. 😉
