Scent Trunk Review Color and Grace Fashion Link Up
What is your first memory about perfume? Mine was not that pleasant. If you have been reading my blog you will know there was not much fashion in China before the 1980s. Perfume was very much a luxury thing for normal Chinese back then. When I was young, our family had pretty tough times but also some good years too. I remember one year my mom bought her first bottle of perfume and I hated it so much because it smelled awful! 😉

I found my first favorite perfume back in 2000. One day I was strolling down a street where there happened to be many fashionable stores in Shanghai. A young and beautiful girl walked by. That was a hot summer day and she smelled so good! She was wearing something that was very sweet and happy. I couldn’t help but stop her to ask what perfume she was using. That was how I fell in love with Flower from Kenzo.

“A woman who doesn’t wear perfume has no future.”
― Coco Chanel
I don’t totally agree but I do love perfume! It quietly speaks for you just like your outfit. When you’re putting together what to wear, you probably don’t want to pair the exact same things that you did before. We all want to be a little bit different and mix it up if we can. So I was on the hunt for a different perfume to complement my wardrobe. My husband often says I have very expensive eyes because most of the things I like are kinda pricey. He’s wrong of course but he’s gotten pretty used to that since we got married! Lol. But it is true that those full sized bottles are at least $50, and most of the scents I like are more than $100. The thing that does sort of bother me though is sometimes I buy the bottle but a few weeks later I don’t love it as much as I thought I did! So now I have a pretty large collection of perfume bottles that aren’t quite empty! In fact some are more than half full. What to do? Too expensive to throw away but not the smell I am looking for to wear. And why are the bottles so big to begin with? The perfume lasts long enough for me to get tired of it and the bottle is too large for me to bring with me when I travel.

Well as usually happens with my million dollar ideas, someone already had them! And that’s exactly what I discovered when I learned about Scent Trunk. It is a luxury, niche fragrance subscription service that sends you a box containing three unique fragrance samples each month. I just received my first one yesterday:

Below are the details:
Price: $18 US for monthly (3 scents/box), see Scent Trunk for details on seasonal, semi-annual and annual Samples: 2 mL each. Enough to use for the entire month!
Shipping: US & Canada
Shipping Cost: Always included
For $18 per month I (and you) have 3 different perfume scents to use based on the answers to my test I took on their website. This sounded more than reasonable to me. Below are the first 3 personalized samples I received. I love a sweet and flowery type of smell. So far, so good. I like all of them but I really love the one called Pavane No.2.

Honestly I don’t know much about perfume so I like the useful little card they include that tells you a little about each of the samples you receive. It is pretty neat for me that those cards show the longevity and sillage level.

Scent Trunk is a small start-up from Kingston, Ontario, Canada. I was pretty impressed by their story. The service started as a student summer project in 2014. They work with luxury niche, unique and up and coming brands and these are samples you can’t find in department stores.

Does this smell interesting? Well wait until you get a whiff of the fun part. I have two bits of info that I think you’ll be happy to hear if you would like to try some new perfume. The first is, if you use code 7297 when you check out you will get $7.20 of gift credit. The second is, they are running a giveaway now here and you could be the lucky one!
Now talking about giveaways (see how seamlessly I segued there?) the lucky winner from last week’s giveaway on my blog is Janneke from South Africa. Congratulations! Don’t forget to join the Color and Grace Fashion Link up before you leave and have a great day!

I did not know before this post that they are subscription boxes for perfume. Perfume is such a personal thing, so it makes me wonder how specific the questionnaires get.

Good question. I think it will give a general taste of you but not that personal.

You always have so much color in your outfits! I love how well you segued from a personal anecdote to Scent Truck – the idea is amazing, as I don’t have a particular scent I like yet, and this is such a great way to figure it out!
About how long would you say each tube lasts if you spritz a little every day?

I haven;t use it the whole month so I can;t tell you exact. But it claim that they are enough for one month. 😉
Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom
I didn’t know there was a perfume subscription service. If you read, you should read the The Perfume Collector… its fiction, but really makes you think about perfume! My husband always wears the SAME cologne. I like to rotate what perfume I wear each day or week!

Haha your story with perfume is so cute! I love perfume and always used to sneak in my mom’s room and use hers when I was little. I think perfume is sometimes the only accessory you ever need 🙂

Great way to try out new fragrances. I collect perfumes but my go to will always be Jasmine Rouge by Tom Ford. Back when I was young Beautiful by Estee Lauder always did it for me. I still like it by the way, :))).

I have quite a few fragrances but always go back to my favourite – YSL Manifesto. I like to test out new perfumes whenever possible but I have to go back several times to make sure I like it when it’s had time to settle and let the base notes come through. I’ve bought perfumes on a whim before and gone off them before I’ve even used a quarter of a bottle! Love the outfit by the way, the midi skirt is really pretty!
