This is the 3rd year in a row that I was invited to the Detroit Auto Show Awards and Fashion Showcase presented by Main Event 20. I couldn’t attend the past two years, 2016 because there was a snow storm and in 2017 my late husband was in the hospital. This year, since I am a full time blogger, I decided to fully come back to our local events. You can read “LIFE AFTER LOSS—FULL TIME BLOGGING” here if you are new to my blog.
This professionally presented event was held in the beautiful Max M. Fischer Music Center in downtown Detroit on 1/14. Since I was a press guest, I didn’t really dress up for the party. I was just trying to be more comfortable.;)
The first half of the event was awards and presentations. I was quite impressed by some of the very talented young auto designers and some auto industry leaders. There is no doubt Detroit is coming back!
After a very nice dinner, the fashion showcase started. This year, there were 4 local fashion designers showcasing their auto industry related, or inspired, designs. Below are some of my favorite looks from the show.
You can see more actions on the cat walk from the short video below.
It is always fun to meet new local designers and other talents. I have to say, I fell in love with Lilacpop by Janna Coumoundouros. She is not just a fashion designer; she is also a photographer, and a jewelry designer. A very creative soul overall! All the black dresses you have seen here are from her designs.
I have seen some great work before from The Paper Dress Code, but I have never gotten the chance to meet the creator behind this brand. Guess what? At this event, I finally bumped into Matthew Richmond, the man who uses Car Parts, Paper, Plastic & VHS Tape and many other unique materials to create beautiful dresses. This cute dress below is all made of paper with main event 20’s logo on it. I just love his unconventional designs!
It has been more than 2 years since I had left all of the local events due to my late husband’s sickness, followed by his passing, and then I was just trying to survive in 2017. I used to attend many of our local events and promote for the industry. You can read about all of the Michigan Fashion Events I attended here. Leave a comment below to let me know what type of events you would like to see on my blog!

So sorry about your husband’s passing…..hoping time and your being busy blogging and attending these creative events will help you heal. Meanwhile, thanks for sharing these unique designs—while I may not be wearing any of them (I’m into the later chapters of my life), it is really fun to see the creative energy and talent that goes into the design and wearing of these items. Detroit and surrounds are coming alive – I give support to all the local designers for staying here and bringing in new energy and vitality!

Such an interesting event. Even if you had a comfrotable outfit, you’re wonderful with it. I’t simple and elegant at the same time. Sorry for the vagarys you endured.
I don’t have a special request concerning event you could write about. I love discovering new type of events.
I was to a fashion event here in Switzerland called Afrodyssée, who promotes african fashion.
Have a look to the article I wrote if you’re interested.
