This is the second post about Shanghai, you can read the first one here. If you have read the first one, you probably have already seen the modern side of this huge city. In this second post, I want to show you around of the traditional side of Shanghai.
Shanghai represents the most populous city in China with a population that reach more than 23 million people. Shanghai as many of the most developed cities in western countries, is divided in two districts by the Huangpu River. The west area is named Puxi (older part of the city) while the east Pudong, (new part of the city) is characterized by innovative developments and a modern landscape. You should have already seen the modern parts of this city in my first post.
From a tourist point of view Puxi, being the older part of the city has more historical background; this is especially visible in the walled Old City district. The latter indeed remained the same without any western influences, and tourists can still experience the authentic China. The Old City district includes many must-see attractions, such as: the Xiaotayuan Mosque Dajing Tower, Old City wall, Yuyuan Garden, Chenxiang Temple and the Temple of Gods. All the photos here were taken at the Yuyuan Garden when I was there this past February.
There are often people asking me, what Shanghai looks like. I usually tell them to think about the size, Shanghai is bigger than New York City, and the weather is comparable to Atlanta’s. 😉 Shanghai has great scenery and the food is some of the best eats in the world. If you love boutique shopping, you are in your little heaven! There are so many cool independent designer boutiques in Shanghai with the cutest clothing and accessories.
