After years of sitting in front of a computer, I had lost most of the strength of my body. It was so easy to feel tired, and I would get headaches so often. I wasn’t overweight, but I wasn’t strong or very healthy either. Then my late husband was going through his chemo treatments, and I was very stressed. My already troubled sleep was even worse. Sometimes I had two sleepless nights in a row, and I could feel my heart was working super hard in my chest. Soon after, I noticed my heart problems. Being aware of this sharp pain in my chest, and having a hard time breathing, made me feel light-headed. Like I had to hold on to something to not fall over.
I knew I had to do something to save myself. The most important being, I needed to get in better shape to take care of my man. So, I started working out at home by using Beachbody DVD. It’s only a 30-minute workout, but I was already dying after my first two-minute warm-up. I had to cheat for a few sessions and hardly pushed to finish the first day. When I stopped, I wanted to throw up. It wasn’t pretty at all, and I was struggling with it every day. But, I kept it going. Most of the days, my man was sitting on the chair across the room. He was already very weak because of the chemo, but he still wanted to keep me company. He would often fall asleep and then wake up from my workout music and then look at me and smile. There were a few times I was crying during the workout because of the stress of my life. My tears would get all over my face and chest, but it somehow made me feel better.
After my man passed away, I found myself a gym nearby and decided to get my high school body back. That was the first step toward getting my life back. At that time, I didn’t know how working out isn’t only a physical training. It has helped me so much with mental health and dealing with depression, also coping with loss. I even thought about getting some specialist insurance for fitness professionals and becoming a personal trainer! Fitness became enjoyable for me. Even though I haven’t got round to become a personal trainer just yet, this didn’t stop me from looking into the idea of getting one for myself! I felt like I would be motivated a lot more this way and I’d be a lot more determined to stay in shape. If you are unsure as to where to begin when it comes to leading a healthier lifestyle or keeping up a routine, a good place to start may be to browse this site and watch some videos online about working out. This is a start and taking small steps can make all the difference.
I used to hate the gym because it was cold and hard with all the machines. But the Area 45 Fitness gym is very different. There are no machines, and all the stations are so much fun. By the way, the photo below is one of the owners of this gym, Revan. He was my personal trainer first and then become my friend. We often talk about life and business. He’s always so helpful with everything, even taking photos of me for my blog. 😉 I’ve seen him help others as well. The unique part of this gym is the loving community it’s created. No matter the instructor or other fellow gym members, everyone is willing to cheer for each other. Anyway, I’ve been going to this gym for almost one year. Most of the months I wasn’t traveling, I’d keep up a routine of coming at least four times a week. Every day’s class isn’t easy, but it’s super fun. I started out with so many struggles, like before. But, since each station is only 45 seconds, I trained myself to only focus on the current 45 seconds… trying to push through. There are seven stations, with each one lasting for 45 seconds, and a total of four rounds. Before Area 45 Fitness, I’ve never known how much I could sweat! I’m very pleased to see that I can push through it day after day.
There were many days that I was angry and sad about my man’s passing. But I didn’t know who I should argue with or fight with. That invisible pain weighed me down all the time. Then, my workout started to actually provide a visible target and measurable success. I treat every 45 seconds of a station as the trouble and hard times that I’m facing, and I fight through to win. Because of this, I’m gaining the control of my life back every 45 seconds at a time. Through the journey of gaining physical strength, I actually gained mental confidence. It feels so good knowing I can, and I am able, to push through anything in my way.
