Blogging Tips || Attending #BlogHer18 Creators Summit

Sometimes I am surprised that there are still quite a few people who don’t really know what exactly bloggers do. After I explain it to them, they usually rephrase it as “oh, so you take pictures, post online and make money.” Lol, sort of. But not exactly.

Being in the blogging world for almost 4 years, I have seen so many bloggers whom I considered my mentors just disappear. I’m grateful for what everyone taught me over the years. If it wasn’t for them recommending that I looked into something as simple as Hostgator deals at to get my blog up and running, I don’t know if I would be able to say that I would still be blogging or even be as proud of my blog as I am now. There’s so much to learn as a blogger, but I am always willing to find out something new everyday!
This industry is super easy to start in, but very difficult to continue. If you look at it as only a hobby and don’t need to worry about how to cover your bills, it’s not such a big deal. 😉 It would be be great to just snap a photo, post it, and make money. Lol!

I have been interviewed many times since I started my blog. There are always similar questions. One of them is ‘What is one tip that you can give to new bloggers?’ My answer is always: be consist. Hard work is a must. Another question I often get is, ‘Where did you find all the national and international brands to work with?’ I know the answer sounds weird, but I didn’t reach out to them. I tried before, and there was no response at all. So I quit, and instead focused on creating more and more high quality content. After two years, there were more and more brands just reaching out to me because I had so much content online. No matter where they looked, I was there. 😉

In late 2017, I quit my teaching job and became a full-time blogger. I have been slowly shifting to a business mind set. Color and Grace is no longer a personal journal. I realized that it required not just hard work, but also smart work. I needed to constantly learn new tricks, new trends and new ways to manage my blog and all my social media channels.

I have been considering attending a blogging conference for the past two years. This year, I finally decided to make the move. I will be attending #BlogHer18 Creators Summit in NYC from 8/8 to 8/9. I have already booked my flight and hotel and I am ready to buckle down and learn. 🙂

Are you thinking of attending that one too? I would love to meet you there! You can also use “ColorGrace75” to get $75 off when you purchase your ticket!

Thank you for inspiring me to keep going. Sometimes people are clueless how hard we work behind the scene sometimes more than 10 hours a day. It is a whole industry that has to be recognized.
in a good note, I am happy you are going to the blogher18 creators summit. I cannot wait to hear all about it. I will miss it maybe next year.

I have been blogging for 7 years (wow, time flies!!) and I have always wanted to attend a conference. Wish I could attend this one but with my daughter’s wedding coming in less than three months it’s crunch time for me on the homefront. Hopefully you’ll do a bog post on the conference. Would love to hear your thoughts!
    Have a great day, Grace!

Love your advice! I think it’s true that it takes time and you need to be consistent. I’m not a pro or anything but I understand what you’re saying. Have fun at the conference! Looking forward to your posts about it!

Building on what Chez-rama stated earlier, I think people see the finished product (Color and Grace) and they do not realize the amount of dedication and hard work that goes into the smallest details of your blog. As a blogger, you wear many hats (writer, photographer, promoter to name a few) in order to make Color and Grace a reality. I think it is also impressive how much your blog has evolved and grown since you first started out. When you first started, you had a website blog that mainly focused on fashion (which was good). Since then, Color and Grace has expanded to become a lifestyle blog that touches on numerous different topics and utilizes multiple social platforms that use different media sources such as interactive posts and videos. More recently your use of IGTV shows your willingness to evolve and make a great product somehow better. As a longtime fan, I have truly enjoyed following Color and Grace and hope that you continue the great work that has made Color and Grace an exceptional blog!

I appreciate your honesty about blogging. I agree that keeping strong content and being consistent are “musts”. (I’m a newbie to fashion blogging.)
