Susan G Komen 3-Day Walk Fundraiser Party Recap

This past Sunday, my 3-Day Walk partner Alison Hill and I held our Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Fundraiser Party at our beloved Area45 Fitness in Troy, Michigan. It was a long day and a lot of work leading to the party, but it was a success and Alison reached her goal of $2300. Now we can walk together as a team of Color and Grace this August 2nd to 4th!

It has been more than 4 months after I personally signed up to walk 60 miles in 3 days to raise money for breast cancer research. First I recruited Alison as my team member. Then I reached my personal goal of $2300 back in May and now my small team has reached the goal too!

It has been such an inspiring and humbling journey for me personally. I have learned so much about myself and how to overcome the fear of not knowing how to reach my goal and if we can reach Alison’s goal. I fully experienced my fear but took actions anyway. I have sent out many personal texts messages, emails, Facebook messages and Instagram messages along with many blog posts and social media posts. Most of them never responded to my messages, some of them were kind enough to tell me they can’t help. And some of them said they will help but received nothing from them after reaching out.

It was hard and very uncomfortable at first to see and feel the ignorance and rejections. I often feel like people might not like me that much and annoyed by my messages. Later I had realized that my fear is just my predication of the negative outcomes. Asking for a donation is just a numbers game, like every sales job, after 20 rejections, I will receive one donation. So if someone replies with a no, I just kept going to the next person. Lol! I think this process has helped me to not associate my personal feelings to the tasks. The bottom line is, I have a goal to reach and I work towards it without any negative emotions.

Anyways, I am really happy with the results that me and Alison have reached our fundraiser goals. And the real satisfaction came from knowing that I have the ability to set a difficult goal and I can reach it, not just my goal, also a team goal! I know the best is yet to come when I really walk 3 days to connect with thousands of kind souls this August!
