“I take 100% responsibility with my life as is today, the good, the bad and the ugly, they are all on me.”

One of the most important things I learned from The Success Principles by Jack Canfield is how to take 100% responsibility for my life. I used to blame my insecurities on my damaged childhood and my abusive mom while I was growing up. While blaming these things may have helped me feel better in the short term, I didn’t have the power to change what happened in my past and I was letting them hold me back from moving forward in my life. What I came to learn was that my damaged childhood and interactions with my mom were just events in my life and it was my choice on how to react to them.
Once I realized that I had the power to affect the outcomes of my own life, that’s when I started to heal from my past traumas and limiting beliefs. However, at some point I hit a wall. It wasn’t until I discovered God that I found out why. Growing up, I learned to rely on myself and when I ran away to Shanghai, I did so on my own. My late husband Bob was always there for me but when he died, I thought it was ultimately my responsibility to heal myself.
What I came to realize is that taking 100% responsibility for my life didn’t mean I have to do everything on my own. When I accepted God into my life, I learned that it was okay to ask for help and that God had been there helping me my entire life even if I wasn’t consciously aware of His presence. I’ve discovered that God gives us a great deal of guidance; we just need to be willing to listen to what He tells and show us.
How do you take 100% responsibility for your life?
