Hat and Fascinator Designer Rachelle Marie Willnus Interview

Hat and Fascinator Designer Rachelle Marie Willnus Interview Derby Hats by Rachelle/ Black studded jacket/ Loft graphic sweater/WHBM BLUSH FULL SKIRT/NINE WEST STUDDED HEELS/YELLOW STUDDED CROSS BODY BAG I had never heard about the Kentucky Derby when I lived in China. The first time these words appeared in my life was 3 years after I moved to America. There was a local design competition and the theme was the Kentucky Derby. My husband/English teacher gave me a mini lesson about the meaning and basic cultural concept. When he started to pull up some photos online, I was like, come on, of course I know this. At least I know about…

DGG The force behind Michigan Fashion industry

DGG The force behind Michigan Fashion industry Last Friday, I got the chance to interview DGG (Detroit Garment Group) President Karen Buscemi. Whew! I’m still out of breath trying to keep up with her! She is one driven woman and just so happens to be gorgeous too! But she’s so much more than just a pretty face. In the past 4 years, she has also established a great platform for everybody who wants to gain fashion and business knowledge and skills in the Michigan area. She is even working on her dream of building a true garment district here! After talking with her for just a short time I know…

C’est Mode Chic $100 gift card giveaway

C’est Mode Chic $100 gift card giveaway As you probably know, I am not from America. I was born and raised in China and only moved here about 9 years ago. Since living here there is one fact that I am absolutely sure of. And that is whoever invented English hated anyone who has to learn it as an adult! I mean you can’t even explain a sentence like “The bass guitar player likes to go bass fishing.” Really? The exact same word with the same 4 letters is pronounced differently and has completely unrelated meanings? Another? Ok, “How much is the bus fare to take me to the county…

Spring into colors your ultimate color and shopping guide

Spring into colors your ultimate color and shopping guide When I am going through rack after rack of clothes, (and no, I don’t mean in my walk in closet!) I always look at the color first, and then size, next will be style and last but certainly not least, quality. And I do it in that order. Now the weather is warming up and it is that time of year to upgrade our wardrobe with some fresh spring color theme pieces. And how better to do that than using the Pantone Fashion Colors Report for Spring 2016 as a guideline? If you know me, you will not be surprised that…

    Fashion designer Cheryl Zemke interview

Fashion designer Cheryl Zemke interview I first “met” Cheryl last fall in a fashion show I attended. She was one of the designers and I loved her collection. But we didn’t get a chance to talk during those crazy busy hours that usually consume the designers who participate in the show. We connected on Facebook later though. I always love seeing her new designs and finally we found some time to do an interview. If you’ve read my previous posts about the Runway Re-purposed fashion show here, you may recognize this look below. I am so in love with this Audrey Hepburn inspired look. This dress took her about one…

Behind the scenes of Runway Repurposed fashion show

Behind the scenes of Runway Repurposed fashion show The 8th annual Runway Re-purposed fashion show is a unique, eco-friendly fashion design competition. Each designer needs to use at least 70% of the recycled clothing and materials that were donated by the local residents and businesses. You can read more details from my previous post here. As I said, this show is near and dear to my heart because I was a small part of it when it just started. Below are a few photos from back in 2008 and 2009 when I entered the competition. Talk about a Throw Back! For the 2008 inaugural show I was into the military…

    Runway re-purposed 2016 fashion show

Runway re-purposed 2016 fashion show They say you can’t go home again. But I did. That is I returned to the town I called home when I first moved to America almost 9 years ago. Why? Well my step-son still lives there and it was his birthday Sunday and also to attend and cover a fashion show. But wait a minute you say, you remember that I lived in a very small town back then. It’s true, it was small but it also had a lot going on for it’s size! Known as the Runway Re-purposed Fashion Show it’s been held every February for 8 years now in Howell, Michigan.…

Go red for women fashion show

Go red for women fashion show While the Red Dress Collection fashion show was presenting in New York Fashion Week, in Michigan we had our own runway. The Go Red for Women fashion show at the beautiful Somerset Collection shop till you drop mall in Troy, MI was held last week and was hosted by the FOX 2 Detroit news host Monica. I was so touched by the people I saw, especially after learning their back stories. These women are not models. They are real people with a job, but they all were somehow connected to or affected by heart disease. If it wasn’t the person walking the runway it…

New Chic Vintage Floral Pleated coat dress review

New Chic Vintage Floral Pleated coat dress review A fit and flare coat dress is always my best friend for my 5 feet nothing and a quarter petite frame. I really love this Vintage Floral Pleated Single Breasted Womens Coat, the color and shape are just what I am looking for. This beauty is from an online store called NEW CHIC. This year I changed my shopping strategy. I’m now going to concentrate on quality over quantity. Which is to say I will purchase more high end, iconic pieces to mix with my normal wardrobe. I have to say, I love those mixtures of high and low. This Vintage Floral…

    Lyudviga Couture interview fashion linkup

Lyudviga Couture interview fashion linkup For me, fashion is a kind of art. Fashion designers are just like other types of artists, they are brilliant, but often they hardly make enough money through their art to earn a living. But Lyudviga Shneyders is one of the exceptions in the Detroit area. She is the owner and designer of Lyudviga Couture in the Detroit suburb of Birmingham, Michigan. Pete Peter from Wake Up Detroit Magazine suggested that I talk to Lyudviga and he spoke highly of her. I’m very happy that I’ve gotten to know Pete. He’s been a great source of potential blog post material and is also a very…
