Effortless Elegance from Edward Mongzar
I have worked with many brands and designers the last two and a half years. But Edward Mongzar is the one who definitely stood out. Why? Read the email from them below:
“Our designer Edward has seen you wear lots of ethical pieces recently and when he found your blog and read about your story, he just fell in love with it! He really would love to send you a garment from his Spring / Summer ’17 collection! We really love your happy energy, your love of colors and your complete honesty, the stories you have shared about your life are really inspiring and Edward and I really believe that our brand is made for people like you! Your love for life really comes across well through your blog and YouTube and it’s great to learn in your blog about where your love of fashion began.”
Did you see? Fashion is meaningless without human connection and emotional bonding. Even before seeing any of their pieces, I already liked them a lot. 😉
Then I did some research and afterwards I found I like this designer, Edward Mongzar, even more. Wonder why? Read his own quote below:
“I am not selling art, history or the future. I am just a designer trying to make the best out of my creative ability to make beautiful clothes”
I love an honest person, and I love how humble and practical he is. It kinda fits in with my current life philosophy too. I believe, for an adult, the best thing we can do is know who we are and be the best we can be. There is no need to dream of changing the world. Simply being the best of yourself is already making the world a better place.
Edward Mongzar started this ready-to-wear, handcrafted Luxury womenswear label back to 2015 in the UK. He has two specialties incorporated into his designs, one is “Marbling” and the another is Hand Woven Fabrics.
The top below is an example of the Marbling technique. Marbling has origins deep set in the days of the T’ang dynasty of China, spreading widely to Japan, India, Iran and Turkey via the Silk Road. Historically, marble dyeing has been exclusive to paper. With the growing interest in marbling on fabric, Edward Mongzar has successfully brought the mediums of marbling and luxury fashion to life, with marble dyeing on luxury fabrics.
This top is very well made of flowery silk with unique marbling patterns. The cold shoulder is so right now. It is for sure a one of a kind color pattern piece because there are no two pieces exactly the same due to the marbling process.
Now let’s take a look at this Hand Woven Fabric top below. This piece is created using the traditional handloom weaving technique of Nagaland, India. It takes days to create even a very small garment.
I really love the color of this top and it is another well made example. Did you see the shape of the sleeves? It is not super dramatic, but adds on some cute flair.
From both tops, I can tell that Edward is good at creating garments with simple silhouettes, yet they remain innovative. I do feel effortless elegance when I am wearing Edward Mongzar clothes. I am thinking I may take both of them to Paris next month when I go. 😉
