SPRING BREAK CANCUN TIPS—How We Take the Worry out of our Vacation
“A” is for Awesome Vacation!
There are lots of choices when you decide you want to get away for a while. Are you into the great outdoors? If so, you probably like camping and hiking. How about the old American tradition of the road trip? Maybe a cruise is what floats your boat, HA! See what I did there? what to do with your left over holiday currency? Next, are you a do it yourself planner who loves the thought of pouring over maps, guidebooks, websites and the travel channels on your TV? Or would you rather go to a local travel agent, and let them do all the heavy lifting, like booking your transfer to the airport? Or would you rather book it yourself with a company like United Coachline? Anyway, I’ve never been much of a map reader. All those confusing lines, dots, colors and strange shapes may as well be some language from another world. So, I’m more the “let someone else do the work” type. My husband and I did a couple cruise vacations, but the last one did NOT agree with me. The movement of the ship and my stomach did not play well together. Although I do have to admit that the green of my face was right in line with my love of color! So for that reason, we decided to try staying on dry land for the last couple years. We did like the food choices and availability of the cruises though, so thought that the best of both worlds would be to go with an all inclusive resort in some sunny warm location.
For our first trip of this sort last year, we figured we had better call in an expert. That meant our local AAA travel agent. We told her when we wanted to go and what our budget was and she pretty much went to her Apple Vacations brochure. Our next door neighbor also had used Apple for several all-in resort trips over the years, and even gave us their old book to look into. My husband had used Apple many years ago, so we knew they had been around for a while, which gave us peace of mind. When it came time for this year’s arrangements, we figured we would cut out the middle man and go straight to the source. After all, it seemed that our travel agent last year had pretty much called them up, had them do most of the work and then collected her fee from us! Hey, I can use a phone as well as the next person! And as it turned out, we didn’t even have to do that. We booked our whole spring break in about one hour on the Apple Vacations website. I guess we probably pay something extra to go with Apple. I don’t know how much but for us at least I think it’s worth it. And in fact we found our trip this year on their “Last Minute Deals” page. They have some pretty attractive trips if you have a little flexibility in your schedule and choice of destination. I really don’t think we could have saved a lot of money over us doing a LOT more work and booking everything directly!
Some of the things I really like about going with a company like Apple are the personal touches. They have a representative at both the airport you start at and the one you finish in. They make sure you get on the right plane and are there to answer questions or help you with customs forms. On the other end, they are waiting to get you to the right ground transportation. That’s another stress busting feature; the airport to hotel or resort transfers. Just one less thing you have to worry about. At our resort, there were more Apple (or actually their local affiliate, Amstar) reps to help you. They will confirm your ride back to the airport as well as help you book any local excursions you may be interested in. At least in our experience, our resort also had a key contact that was in charge of the Apple guests. This must be a testament to how much business Apple brings their way. And they seem to appreciate those of us who book with Apple. We get a special color wrist band and are invited to the exclusive and traditional Apple BBQ. These are not to be missed, as the food, drinks and entertainment are all top notch! The last thing you need on your vacation is worry and hassle and for us at least we’ve found that using Apple can really take a lot of the guesswork out of travel. And that money I saved from the travel agent fees? Well it’s possible I left it at the local casino! But at least it was mine a bit longer than last year! Please come back for some more reviews and travel tips. Oh, and the usual great pictures!
