What to wear for a Christmas gathering fashion linkup
When we were young, we didn’t care about hanging out with those older family members. We were way too busy discovering the wide world around us. Now we are getting older, or more correctly, wiser and more experienced, we realize that it doesn’t matter how fancy and attractive the far away world is, our family is the only world we really live in.
That is why in recent years I am more and more drawn to family gatherings. Especially during the holidays. It’s a time to catch up on some family news and gossip and see those familiar faces. I get to hold the newborn babies, and watch the not so newborn kids growing so fast. It’s actually a very precious experience.
When my husband was growing up (a long, long, long, looooong time ago!) he often went with his family to the town of Frankenmuth, Michigan. They would make the little over one hour drive to enjoy the sights, smells and tastes of this little town for family gatherings. Now we are keeping this tradition alive too. Last weekend, my husband and I and my step kids and grandkids all met at Frankenmuth to build our Christmas spirit. Oh and to eat until we could barely move! If you are not familiar with Frankenmuth, here is a short bio for it:
Frankenmuth is a city of 4,944 located just about 90 minutes drive north of Detroit. For a small town they have done an unbelievable job of promotion! So successful in fact that it draws over three million tourists annually to its Bavarian-themed shops and restaurants. The town was originally settled by immigrants from southern Germany. These people put their touch on the village and it is now widely known as “Little Bavaria”. The family style, all-you-can-eat world famous dinners sold at the twin restaurants of Zehnder’s and the Bavarian Inn serve so many platters of their tasty fried chicken that just the whisper of “Frankenmuth” puts fear into the eyes of roosters and hens throughout the Midwest! It’s also Christmas year-round in Frankenmuth when you visit Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland, which is widely known as “the World’s Largest Christmas Store”. Another fine German tradition is beer and that’s taken to heart at the Frankenmuth Brewery, where this time of year you can enjoy a pint of Christmastown Ale! Frankenmuth also attracts tourists with festivals and other events throughout the year.
My husband’s family loves to meet at Zehnder’s for dinner. Honestly, for a chicken dinner, I’m OK with KFC! I like the taste and it’s certainly easier on the budget. But I do love the pâté they serve with the appetizers! I guess the taste is not the only reason people keep going back to a place, it is also the memories they have.
This time of year, Michigan is usually quite cold; but luckily we had a pretty mild day when we visited Frankenmuth last weekend. So I just wore this elegant and classic black and white coat with some vintage pins to add a flash of color. The cats eye mirrored sunglasses from Ditto add just the right amount of edginess.
I have read about Ditto many, many times. DITTO is an Internet site that sells designer prescription or nonprescription eyeglasses and sunglasses. The company uses virtual fitting technology to let customers try on frames from a computer. The technology measures a user’s face by homing in on pupils, eyes, cheekbones, ears and other facial landmarks, and then comes back with images of dozens of pairs of different glasses that might be a good fit. It was pretty cool to try it. 😉
These sunglasses I was wearing in this post are The Capri by Prism They retail for $408 but you can Rent it for only $24/mo. It includes free shipping and free 30-day returns. You can use code: COLORANDGRACE
