I have been mentoring high school and college girls since last year. My mission is to lay a positive foundation for their mindset and encourage them to pursue their dreams. I have really enjoyed working with all of them. The best part is how rewarding it is when I see I have made some positive impact on their lives. Below is a summary from my current intern Jada. She is such a wonderful girl who has a big dream and is working hard to reach it!
Dream it. Plan It. Make It Happen.

“As a young child, I always dreamed big, for myself, my career, and my family. I always wanted to run my own business and be my own brand and with this new age of technology, it is more possible than ever. From youtubers to instagram influencers, social media not only has an impact on our daily lives but also our careers. When I first met Grace, I was at an internship with Onenie a media/news company located in Ferndale, MI. This particular day we were doing a podcast for “She Do” a podcast for women and by women and how they get money. After a short hour of hearing Grace’s story, I felt inspired and empowered and wanted to talk to her more. My then mentor Jen reached out to her and I exchanged emails and landed the internship with Grace for the second semester of my senior year.
The goal of these internships is to help high school students get the opportunity to work in a career field they believe they are going to pursue. So what exactly is it I want to do? Well, I want to go into Product Design and minor in Marketing and eventually run my own business. So why did I pick Grace? Well, I believed working with Grace would be extremely beneficial to me because of who she is as a person and the type of work she does. I’ve always enjoyed writing, fashion, beauty, and more recently social media branding. My dream job would be to be my own brand, create my own products, and become an overall leader/influencer. Not only did I learn about running a business from Grace I learned how to have a boss mentality.
Everything Grace does has a specific purpose and vision. She knows what she wants and she finds a way to make it happen. I love how passionate she is about what she does and her overall lifestyle. Grace does everything with the main goal: to be happy. “Think of yourself as a vase, if you pour all your water into your relationships you have none left for yourself. But, if you focus on filling yourself up your energy will overflow into others.” These are just one of the many things I have taken away from Grace. Women often give so much of themselves that they end up with nothing for themselves or worse unhappy. When you are doing well and taking care of yourself, it is much easier to help others out. This was a big conversation I had with Grace that helped me evaluate how I spend my time and my vision for my future. I started doing more for myself and I realized it’s okay to be a little selfish as long as I do it in a way that I’m not solely focusing on myself.
Being around Grace I gained an inner sense of strength, confidence, and drive that I lost throughout the last two years from moving in the middle of my high school career, being injured from sports, experiencing loss in my life, and the ending of certain relationships. I learned to block out the “noise” which Grace and I define as the stuff going on in our environment that distract us from our goals. Grace told me to take the time I need to focus on my distraction at the moment then move on, and make it happen. Every time I find myself drifting from my goals, or losing motivation due to the “noise” I think about what Grace told me and get to doing something meaningful and useful of my time. This has helped me be more productive, happy, and overall keeping that boss mentality.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with Grace, she is not only a mentor and life coach to me, but a friend. One thing I can say about Grace is that she cares. She cares about her followers, her peers, her family, and the work she creates. I enjoy working with her from the photoshoots, editing her blogs and posts, and the responsibility of redesigning her website. Working with Grace I feel valued and I am so thankful for the time she spent checking on me, believing in me, and just having these life-changing talks with me. This started off as an internship, but in the end, I walked away with so much more.
Thank you Grace, for just being you.”
I am truly honored to have amazing people like Jada in my life. Through these internships, I have learned so much about how to be a better mentor, leader, and friend. I have told all my interns and staff that my goal is to prepare them to be their own boss in whatever the field they are passionate about.
By the way, Jada and I have decided to continue her internship this summer! 🙂
